Volunteer Opportunities at Your Clallam County YMCA
The YMCA has a number of opportunities that provide meaningful work for volunteers while enhancing our own efforts in the community. The following list is fairly comprehensive but other options (or even combination of the following lists) may be available to meet an applicant’s needs and interests. Training and supervision are provided for all positions and work schedules are flexible. All applicants should have friendly dispositions and be interested in working closely with other people. Please contact administration at 360-452-9244, if you are interested in volunteering. We’d be happy to talk to you.
LIKE TO PAINT? LOVE TO WEED? ENJOY CLEANING AND ORGANIZING? We have a few days that fit the bill!!! Our YMCA has an annual facility maintenance closure coming up on Thursday, August 18 – Sunday, August 21. If you would like to lend a hand, we could use the help. Please contact Jacques Livingston at jacques@olympicpeninsulaymca.org for details.
BUILDING FUTURES MENTORING PROGRAM:
Looking for caring and supportive adults over the age of 15 to be mentors for elementary and middle school students in Port Angeles, Sequim, and Joyce.
Volunteer mentors meet with their “Buddies” on school grounds for one hour a week, for a minimum of one year. While we encourage our mentors to occasionally devote some of their meeting time to academics, the purpose of this program is to provide youth with adult role models and friends. Students are generally referred by their teachers as children who could benefit from some additional one-on-one time with an adult to play games, talk, read, play sports, draw, and just have fun! All of our volunteers are carefully screened—we require three references, and we perform name-based and finger-print background checks on our volunteers. For more information, please contact Michell at gentry@olympicpeninsulaymca.org, or stop by the lobby for an application.
